Tata Motors conducted the test drive for the world’s cheapest car, Tata Nano. Tata Nano gave a test drive by journey from its Pantnagar based manufacturing plant to hilly town of Gopeshwar. This test drive surprised the residents of Gopeshwar in Chamoli district at Dehra Dun when the Nano went for a test drive in the town driving down at serpentine and tough hilly roads. The company official said that it was one of the toughest tests being conducted by Tata Motors. It is expected that users can got the mileage of 17-20 kmpl at the hilly region.
“We have conducted the test drive of Nano at the hills of Uttarakhand and Pune and its initial reports are very encouraging,” said one of the official of Tata Motors plant at Pantnagar. He also added that the exact launch date of the car is yet to be decided by the company but it is expected that it will launch in the month of March/April. Tata Motors has already committed to Uttrakhand government that the first Nano shall roll out from the state. The Uttarakhand government has already announced for allotment of 45 acres of extra land to Tata Motors to facilitate the production of the world’s cheapest car. Tata Motors currently manufactures its Ace trucks at its Pantnagar based manufacturing plant.
The commercial launch of Tata Nano was scheduled for October 2008 but the violent protests by the farmers of Singur in West Bengal forced the company to shut down its nearly complete plant and relocate the complete manufacturing plant at Sanand in Gujarat. The company shall roll out only limited number of Nano from its Pantnagar plant and shall commence for a complete commercial launch in the early next year when the Sanand plant is fully operational.
