Tata Nano is equipped with small rear mounted low powered engine of 623cc, 2-cylinder, multi point fuel injection patrol engine to reduce overall cost. Its rear mounted engine and its layout eliminates drive shaft for more space with reduced weight. The mono-volume design of Tata Nano, with wheels at the corners and the power-train at rear wheel, that enables it to uniquely combine both space and manoeuvrability.

The safety performance of Tata Nano exceeds all current regulatory requirements that meets EURO-IV standards. Tata Nano has an all sheet-metal body, a strong passenger compartment, with safety features like crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, seat belts and anchorages, with rear tailgate glass bonded to its body.

On the other hand to reduce the manufacturing cost of Tata Nano, Tata Motors not added few regulatory features of a hatchback car like there is no A/C, music System, and passenger Side mirror and added just one wind shield wiper. Its pannels are innovatively designed to eliminate the need for screws.
