Fiat Grande Punto launched in India

Today on 17th June, leading passenger car manufacturer Fiat India launched its second salvo, Fiat Grande Punto in India in premium small car segment. With the launch of this car Fiat India is now ready to storm the small car market in India. Fiat Grande Punto launched with eight variants (four with petrol engine and four with diesel engine) and its all variants are priced in the range of Rs 3.99lacs to Rs 6.11 lacs (as ex-showroom prices in New Delhi). The petrol variants of Fiat Grande Punto are available in the range of Rs 3.99 lacs to Rs 5.61 lacs while its diesel variants are priced in the range of Rs 4.85 lacs to Rs 6.11 lacs.

Fiat Grande Punto launched in India with three engine options - two petrol and one diesel engine option. The petrol variants of Fiat Grande Punto comes with two engine option - a 1.2L petrol engine option and a 1.4L, FIRE petrol engine option while its diesel variants are equipped with a 1.3L, multijet turbodiesel engine. Fiat India has launched Fiat Grande Punto also with 1.2L capacity engine option to reap the benefits of excise duty cut. As in India the cars which are powered by 1.2L capacity engine or lower capacity engine are considered as small cars and gets the 16% concession in excise duty.

Fiat Grande Punto is available with four variants - Active, Dynamic, Emotion and Emotion Pack in both petrol and diesel engine trims. So the the pricing of this car reflects its too as its base variant Active which is powered by 1.2L petrol engine is available at Rs 3.99 lacs (as ex-showroom prices in New Delhi). Other petrol variants Dynamic, Emotion and Emotion Pack which are packed with 1.4L FIREpetrol engine are priced in range of Rs 4.65lacs to Rs 5.61 lacs. While all four diesel variants of Fiat Grande Punto are that is equipped with 1.3L, multijet diesel engine are priced in the range Rs 4.85 lacs to rs 6.11 lacs.

Speaking on the launching ceremony of Fiat Grande Punto, FIAL (Fiat India Autobobiles Ltd) Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Kapoor said, "The launch of Fiat Grande Punto marks a new milestone for Fiat in Indian market as we bring quintessentially Italian design to Indian shores." He also added that Fiat believes that the Indian small car market is under-tapped and customers are increasingly looking forward to International brands.

FIAL (Fiat India Automobiles Ltd) is a 50:50 joint venture between Italian auto major Fiat SpA and Indian auto manufacturer Tata Motors. With the launch of Fiat Grande Punto, FIAL plans to make it postion strong in the premium hatchback segment and to compete with Maruti Ritz, Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20, Skoda Fabia and recently launched Honda Jazz. The company officials said that Fiat Grande Punto will be retailed through over 100 Tata - Fiat dealers network across the country. The company's Pune based Ranjangaon manufacturing plant has manufacturing capacity of two lacs units of cars and three lacs engines per annum and it also produces Fiat Palio Stile and Fiat Linea from the same plant.
