World's cheapest and most awaited Tata Motors' small car model Tata Nano will hit the Indian road today. After overcoming all the obstacles of its way like rising commodity prices and political opposition, and violent protests by farmers due to land disputation at its planned site in Singur. Ratan Tata, Chairman Tata Motors will finally hand over the key of Tata Nano to its first owner today. Though the identity of the first Tata Nano owner is not known but he or she is likely to be the archetypal ‘Man on the street’, with ordinary aspirations. It is also expected that he or she has even taken a loan for the prize catch.

It will be the defining moment for the customer, the global auto industry and for Tata Motors itself which will be the held at the Tata Motors' showroom at Prabhadevi. The roll out of Tata Nano which will begin by today will surely prove the litmus test for Tata Nano on road performance. Tata Motors selected the one lakh lucky customers through lottery system out of 2.06 lakh customers who booked Tata Nano in the first phase of booking in April. While a number of people opted for a loan for Tata Nano its top-end model Tata Nano LX has been the most sought after. The delivery of Tata Nano to its selected one lakh customers will be started from today onwards and it would be delivered to all these customers in a phased manner by the end of 2010. These selected one lakh customers are price-protected and they would get Tata Nano at the ex-showroom price of Rs 1 lakh.
