German luxury car manufacturer Volkswagen ready to launch its premium hatchback model Volkswagen Polo in Indian market very soon. The top company executive said that Volkswagen Polo will be launched in Indian market in the first half of 2010. Volkswagen initially looking for the 50% of localization for Volkswagen Polo to reduce its overall manufacturing cost. The company plans to launch Volkswagen Polo in both petrol and diesel trims and according to the senior company official all variants of Volkswagen Polo will be available in the range of Rs 4 to 6 lacs.
"The Volkswagen Polo will be launched in Indian market early next year. The hatchback version of Volkswagen Polo will be launched in the first quarter of 2010 while the sedan version of Volkswagen Polo will be launched in the second- half," Member of the Board and Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Neeraj Garg, told. He added that the testing of Volkswagen Polo is going on and it will be launched with both petrol and diesel engine option.
Volkswagen has recently setup its 500-acre manufacturing plant at Chakan near Pune which has capacity to manufacture 1,10,000 units of car per year. Volkswagen has invested around Rs 3,800 crore at this manufacturing plant.
Volkswagen is currently selling two models in India Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Passat in premium D segment. But now company planning to capture more share in Indian market as more than 70% of car buyers falls in small hatchback segment in Indian auto market. Volkswagen also plans to introduce in premium small car model Volkswagen Beetle and premium SUV Volkswagen Touareg in Indian market very soon.
Other than the Volkswagen Polo some models are also going to launch in Indian market like Skoda Yeti, Toyota Prius, Maruti Eko, Tata Indicruz, diesel version of Honda City, Volkswagen Phaeton and newer version of Honda Jazz and Fiat Linea.
