After the huge success in hatchback segment with its most popular model Tata Indica now India's leading auto manufacturer, Tata Motors said that they are planning to launch the electric version of Tata Indica in Indian market. Tata Motors said that they will launch Tata Indica Electric in Indian auto market and overseas market by the next 12 to 14 months. The company official said that they very start very soon the feasibility study to launch Tata Indica electric in Indian auto market. Tata Motors is currently working on to develop electric Tata Indica with a Norway based company to launch this car in European market by 2011.

Tata Indica PicturesThe Tata Motors’ MD (India Operation) Prakash M Telang said that the Tata Indica Electric will be launched also in Indian market simultaneously with its global launch. He added that the company will start the feasibility study for the product very soon but it will be started when we have the ready product. Indian auto market is a cost sensitive market and we are considering this cost factor to launch the electric version of Tata Indica.

He added that we have to look for the cost equation for Indian market. First we need to see the market demand as Tata Indica Electric will be expensive vehicle. Power is also a problem as electricity is not easily available in some part of the country. Tata Motors had recently showcased this electric version of Tata Indica at the annual convention of SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) in 2008 followed by Geneva Auto Show.
