Volkswagen Beetle, one of the most successful car model of German auto maker, is learnt to hit Indian roads by December. The new style car would be imported from Volkswagen plant in Mexico. The news was confirmed by a senior company official who was present here for a summit. The car was developed initially as a people's car but it is not the casein India as the cost would be much higher. The price range is believed to be around $20,000 thereby placing it in luxury car segment in India. The car is expected to be displayed in upcoming Auto Expo in Delhi. In the meantime, a news Volkswagen Polo and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X are believed to be launched in India early next year.

Volkswagen sells Volkswagen Passat, Volkswagen Tourage and Volkswagen Jetta in India at present. Volkswagen group assembles Skoda, Audi and Volkswagen, 19,000 units of these cars have been sold last year, in facilities at Chakan and Aurangabad. The group intends to achieve the full-capacity production by 2012. In addition to this, VW is going to recruit 1,500 workers for Chakan plant. In the next six years, the company is aiming to grab 8-10 per cent market share of passenger car in India.
