Both Honda Jazz and Skoda Fabia hogged a good amount of limelight in the media during its launch and paid big bucks for its promotion. Seemed like a win win situation at the time. As much as exciting the features were, the biggest let down was their price. Honda Jazz priced at Rs 7.9 lakhs (ex-showroom price, Delhi) and Skoda Fabia priced at 8.42 lakhs ( ex-showroom price, Delhi). Though the two cars are closely priced but the two are vastly different. To begin with, where Honda Jazz is available with only petrol engine, Skoda Fabia is available with both petrol and diesel variants. Lets compare the two and see as to what these cars actually offer.
Compare Engine Capacity, Power and Performance
Honda Jazz high end model boasts of a 1.2 L, 4 cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 1198cc. It offers a maximum torque of 11.2 KGM at 4800 rpm. The car accelerates from 0-100 kph in mere 13.29 seconds.
Skoda Fabia is available with both diesel and petrol variant. The petrol variant comes with a 1.2L, 3 cylinder engine with an engine displacement of 1198 cc. It offers a maximum torque of 11 KGM at 3,000 rpm. The petrol variant picks a top speed of 155 kph and accelerates to 100 kph from 0 kph in 16.26 seconds.
The diesel variant comes with a 1.4L, 4 cyclinder engine with an engine displacement of 1422 cc. It offers a maximum torque of 15.8 KGM at 1600-2800 rpm. The diesel variant picks up a top speed of 168 kph and accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in a matter of 14.95 seconds
Compare Fuel Economy, Average and Mileage
Honda Jazz gives a mileage of 13 kmpl in city and 16 kmpl on the highway.
Skoda Fabia (petrol version) gives a mileage of 13.2 kmpl in the city and 16.8 kmpl on the highway. The diesel version on the other hand offers a mileage of 15.1 kmpl in the city and 19 kmpl on the highway.
Compare Features of Skoda Fabia and Honda Jazz
The standard features in Honda Jazz include air conditioning, steering wheel adjustment, power windows (front and rear), adjustable driver seat, CD/MP3 player, fog lamps. Other features include power steering, remote fuel lid opener, low fuel warning light, accessory power outlet and trunk light. The safety features in Honda Jazz consist of Antilock Braking system, 2 airbags in the front, Brake Assist, Central and Remote locking, Power Door Locks, Child Safety Locks, Night rear view mirror, rear seat belts, side and front impact beams.
The standard features in both, Skoda Fabia petrol and diesel variant include air conditioning, steering wheel adjustment, power windows (front and rear), adjustable driver seat, CD/MP3 player, fog lamps, Leather seats. Some features that are only available in the diesel variant are remote trunk opener and remote fuel lid opener. The safety features also vary with the engine. The diesel variant offer safety features like anti lock braking, brake assist, central locking, power door locks, child safety locks, 2 airbags in the front, night rear view mirror, rear seat belts, engine check warning, door ajar warning and side and front impact beams. The petrol variant only includes child safety locks, night rear view mirror, rear seat belts, door ajar warning, 2 airbags in the front, door ajar warning, engine check warning and side and front impact beams.
We've had a look at both the hatchback models and it can be said that both Fabia and Jazz are packed with a variety of features that may lure customers towards it. However as we mentioned earlier, considering the price sensitive market in India, it seems difficult for both the brands to sell the above models. Moreover if you look at it, if you put in a little more money, you can own a sedan that offer abundant features.
