Compare Volkswagen Vento and Fiat Linea

Volkswagen and Fiat, the two popular and trusted auto makers are soon to launch their much hyped cars in the sedan segment. Fiat would launch Fiat Linea T Jet in the month of July'2010 that would be priced in the bracket of Rs 7 to 9 lakhs. Volkswagen Vento whose sketch was revealed lately is expected to launch around the same time in India. It is speculated that Volkswagen Vento is based on the famous hatchback Polo's platform. The cars would surely compete hands down, so lets have a preliminary assessment of various features of the cars.
Compare Engine Capacity, Power and Performance
Lets talk about Volkswagen Vento, the said model is available in both petrol and diesel engine which churn out 105 bhp power. The petrol engine gives out a torque of 15.8 Nm and the diesel engine gives a torque of 15.8 Nm which pretty much tells you the difference in driving capacity. Vento is speculated to have the same engine as that of Polo. Volkswagen Vento
would have double overhead shafts and a 4 valve head. Since the company aims at manufacturing a light weight model, Vento would not weigh more than 100 kg when compared to its popular hatchback Polo.
Now comes the Fiat Linea T Jet which is powered by a 1.4L turbo charged petrol engine and gives out a power of 120PS @ 5000 rpm and a maximum torque of 260 Nm at 1750 rpm. The pick up and acceleration amazes too as it picks up a speed from 0-100 kmph in just 9.2 seconds and touches a top speed of 200 kmph. Fiat Linea comes with both petrol and diesel engine option wherein the petrol variant has a 1.4L, 1368 cc which produces 90bhp at 6000 rpm and gives a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 4500 rpm. It gives a mileage of 12 to 16 kmpl. The diesel variant, on the other hand has a 1.3L, 1248cc multijet engine that churns out a maximum power of 85 Bhp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 203 Nm at 2500 rpm. It offers a mileage of 14 to 19 kmpl.
Compare Features of Volkswagen Vento and Fiat Linea
Volkswagen is ready to give a tough competition to Fiat Linea and is thought to be launched with load of features that are bound to grab attention. These features include advanced chassis design and rigid bodyshell. The standard features include five three point seat belts, front and side air bags, ABS anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-pressure distribution (EBD). Volkswagen experts have proposed that their new model Vento gives top notch driving and seating comfort. The boot space to be of 500 litres.
Fiat Linea would also sport a number of features like Airbags, ABS, Picture EBD, ESP that helps in providing more support to the driver. The car would also allow effective traction control with its amazing brakes and engine control. ASR system would make the driving easier even in rough ground conditions. MSR, Hillholder-HBA are additional safety controls in the car. There are certain passive safety features like Air Bag smart-2 system, side and curtain air bags, front racked seat belts.
With a great line up of features and functionality both the cars are going to be tough competitors and there are hopes that they would eventually conquer the sedan segment in India.
