Volkswagen group has taken steps to make the Volkswagen Passat and Volkswagen Jetta more popular. The Volkswagen Passat has pleasing looks. It is elegant has a fine German built but the diesel engine has been a cause of disappointment and the Rs 22 Lakh price tag was a little high.
But now Volkswagen Passat is all set to get a 1.8 Liter TSI engine (currently present in Skoda Laura). This petrol engine is capable of producing 163 Hp and 250 Nm of max torque. This is bound to give the Volkswagen Passat an edge over others. The Volkswagen Passat would also get a 5 speed manual gearbox. And the best part is the cars new price tag – at Rs 18 Lakh.
Even the Volkswagen Jetta is being updated. The Volkswagen Jetta had a1.6 Liter, 100 Bhp petrol engine but that is on its way out due to the Bharat stage 4 emission norms. The 2010 Volkswagen Jetta would now have the 2 Liter, 140 HP, 320 Nm CRDI diesel engine. This places the Volkswagen Jetta in direct competition with the likes of Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze and the Skoda Laura. The new Volkswagen Jetta now becomes more powerful and safe. The Volkswagen Jetta now has eight airbags and a DSG gearbox.
