The sketch of the German carmaker Volkswagen’s next ‘made for India’ sedan has been released. The car has been designed keeping in mind Indian needs and the production of the new sedan is expected to begin at Volkswagen’s Chakan plant near Pune. The sedan in question is not the ‘Polo Sedan’ that has been the cause of much speculation lately. The car would most likely be name Volkswagen Vento. “We have already started producing the new sedan which would be bigger than Polo but smaller than Jetta. We are currently producing it in small numbers and would commercially launch it by August this year,” said Kurt Rippholz, head, communications India Volkswagen group and brand, to a national newspaper.
The all new sedan by Volkswagen is likely to be placed between Volkswagen Polo hatchback and Volkswagen Jetta.
The Volkswagen Group is receiving lots of bookings for the Volkswagen Polo and has announced it would ramp up the production of Polo at its Chakan plant. Rippholz told the national daily, “We are very happy with the way Polo has been doing, our production is on track and in line with the quality of our other cars built in Germany, Mexico and South Africa.” The company expects to reach full capacity of 1.1 lakh units per year in about two years. The company’s strategic alliance with Suzuki Motors is also working out well and progress is being made step by step. Volkswagen and Suzuki Motor has hinted towards launching a low-cost small car for the Indian market.
