The year 2010 is unwinding as a pure delight for the Indian automobile enthusiasts and buyers. There have already been a number of new cars being launched in the early part of 2010 and many more cars are expected to launch in the coming months. Post the Delhi Auto expo, early this year, there have been too much crowd in the Indian automobile market with cars lining to launch nearly every month.
We have compiled a sneak preview for 5 new cars ready to be launched this monsoon season (June July'2010).
Volkswagen Phaeton is the first car topping the charts in terms of the exorbitant price tag it would come packed with. This super luxury ready to launch in the month of June, would be tagged Rs 76.3 lakh (ex showroom price). The car would be Volkswagen's third import as a completely built in unit after Touareg and the new Beetle. The major specifications of the car includes a 3.6L V6 Petrol engine capable of producing 280 PS (206kW) at 6250 rpm and 370 Nm at 3500 rpm. The car would have a 6 Speed tiptronic system and 17" Impression Alloy Wheels (235/55 R17). The company is certainly not expecting huge sales volumes for the car as it targets the elite and lies in the niche segment.
Volkswagen seems to be gearing up in high speeds to capture a big chunk of the Indian automobile market as the year saw the launch of its much-hyped luxury hatchback Volkswagen Polo. The company has already started the production of its contender against Honda City, the Volkswagen Vento. The Chakan plant of the company engaged in the production is going to produce 100 units of the car in a day. The car would have a differential advantage over Honda City as it would come in both Diesel and Petrol variants.
When there is a discussion on the most-talked about cars of 2010, there is one car that would top the charts, Nissan Micra. The bookings of the car have already started with an initial booking amount of Rs. 50,000/-. Buyers have shown a tremendous response to the car and are already queuing up the showrooms to have a first-pick of the car. Nissan Micra is one of the first cars from the company that has been designed keeping the Indian consumer demands in mind. The car is expected to launch in both Petrol and Diesel versions, with a total of 6 variants. Nissan Micra would sport 1.2L, 1240cc petrol engine and a 1.4L, 1386cc petrol engine capable of generating 80PS at 5200rpm with 110Nm of maximum torque at 3600rpm and 88PS power at 5200rpm with maximum torque of 128Nm at 3200rpm. While the 1.5L, 1461cc diesel engine would be capable of generating 86PS power at 3750rpm with maximum torque of 200Nm at 1900rpm.
The fourth car joining the Monsoon league is Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. It is expected that Mitsubishi Motors would launch the car in the price range of 21-24 Lacs bracket. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X would be launched in association with Hindustan Motors in India. The car will be launched as a CBU and would be imported to India. All variants of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X will be powered by the 2.0L, 1998cc, 16-Valve, MIVEC, DOHC, Turbo engine with 5-speed manual transmission gear box that makes it a performance car.
Tata Motors has been ruling the utility segment with its flagship model Tata Safari for a while now. Joining the league is Tata Aria, a new MUV ready to be launched by July'2010. The car been designed with all latest and advanced features, enough to compete hard against its contemporaries like Ford Endeavour, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Innova and upcoming Skota Yeti.
