The Indian hatchback market keeps its players on their toes. The best way to lure more and more buyers in such a dynamic market is to innovate and bring out newer and better versions of products. Carmaker Fiat did just that. The company launched the Punto 90 HP version. This is a better and more powerful version of the premium hatchback Fiat Punto. This all new Punto diesel has been priced at Rs 6.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The new Fiat Punto has a 89 bhp 1.3-litre Multijet diesel unit capable of producing 75hp. The engine in the Punto 90 HP is the same as the one doing duty in Fiat Linea. After this new addition, the Fiat Punto becomes about15 bhp more powerful. The older unit of the Fiat Punto is capable of producing 75 HP and it is a Multijet diesel engine that powers the hatchback. You will get the Fiat Punto 90 HP in the Emotion trim only for now, along with the older Fiat Punto 75 HP. The Fiat Punto also offers a 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre Petrol FIRE engines that produce 67 bhp and 88 bhp respectively.
Another change that the new Fiat Punto has incorporated is the re-tuned engine that also boasts of a variable geometry turbocharger instead of the fixed geometry turbocharger found in the 75 HP. The Fiat Punto would take about 3.8 seconds less to do the 0-100 kph sprint than the regular 75 HP car and it boasts of a top speed that is 10 kph higher than the regular car as found in our road test.
This is a much needed change in the Fiat Punto to boost sales as there is enough competition in the hatchback market for the premium car. The new unit would make the car swifter and more fun to drive. The performance is also likely to go up. Overall, the car has some peppy new things and the carmaker can use them to pitch the product to prospective buyers.
