Maruti Alto K10, is the latest version of the country's largest selling car Maruti Alto, and comes fitted with the company's most popular K Series engine. The K Series engine is an Aluminium based engine which makes it light weight and thus increases the performance of the car. As the engine gets lighter, the acceleration and pick up improves significantly and also there is a considerable impact on the mileage of the vehicle.
The Alto K10 has been shelved at an ex-showroom price of Rs 3.03 lakh for the base LXi version and Rs 3.16 for the VXi version. Maruti Alto K10 is sure to give a tough competition to Chevrolet Spark and Hyundai Santro.
Maruti Alto K10 has the same engine that currently powers Maruti A Star, Wagon R and Zen Estilo delivering 68PS of maximum power at 6200 Rpm and 90Nm of maximum torque at 3500 rpm. The car weighs 50 kgs heavier and would reach a maximum of 100kmph in 13.3 seconds as opposed to 17.3 seconds by the 800cc Alto. Maruti assures an ARAI approved mileage of 20.2 kmpl. Apart from the engine being changed the mechanical aspects of the car would remain same except re-tuned suspension, new cable type transmission for smoother gear shifts and booster assisted braking system.
Maruti seems to placed an intelligent bet with its largest selling car Alto, by adding a handful of attractive features in the new Maruti Alto K10 like tinted glasses, Body coloured bumpers, Precise and smart front grill, Stylish tail gate, Large 13-inch tubeless tyres, Trendy wheel-covers and interesting body side mouldings. In terms of looks the sides and front end would remain quite similar, but the rear end gets a new look with back door and fresh tail lamps. While in interiors the car would sport dual tone interiors, 3-spoke steering wheel, Vibrant new colours for upholstery, Colour coordinated door trim fabric, Stylish gear knob, integrated headrests at front and rear, all-new speedometer, tachometer and electronic tripmeter, Vanity mirror, Accessory socket, Rear parcel tray, ash tray, cup holder and front power windows.
Along with a range of comfort features being added, Maruti Alto K10 stands stronger and safer for its passengers with features like Collapsible steering column, improved suspension system, improved brake system, side impact beams, front fog lamps, headlight leveling device, the child locks on the rear door, central locking, i-CATS to minimizes chances of a burglary and high mounted rear stop lamp.
With Alto doing extremely well and liked by Indians across all segments, Maruti Suzuki seems to have made calculative moves by not relying completely on its laurels and neither replacing it with a new model. The company has advanced the capabilities and retained the popular features of Alto to gift the Maruti Alto K10 to Indians.
