India's largest selling car Maruti Alto gets a level high in attractiveness today as the car gets a new version. The all new Alto is powered by the company's most popular K10 engine and has been priced at an ex-showroom price of Rs 3.03 lakh for the base LXi version and Rs 3.16 for the VXi version. The earlier version with the 800 cc engine is not faded and would exist parallely.
The addition of a K series would mean increased power and performance. The K Series engine is an Aluminium based engine which makes it light weight and as the engine gets lighter, the acceleration and pick up improves significantly and also there is a considerable impact on the mileage of the vehicle. Currently, the Maruti stable offers K10 and K12 engines in the popular K series display. The 1 litre K10 engine that powers the new Alto also powers the Maruti Suzuki A-Star, Estilo and the new WagonR, while the K12 engine powers Maruti Ritz and Swift.
The car is sure to give a tough competition to Chevrolet Spark and Hyundai Santro as Maruti assures an ARAI approved mileage of 20.2 kmpl. The main addition is the new engine that would deliver maximum power at 6200 Rpm and 90Nm of maximum torque at 3500 Rpm. With this the car gets 50 kgs heavier than its sibling but can reach a maximum of 100kmph in 13.3 seconds as opposed to 17.3 seconds by the 800cc Alto. The mechanical aspects of the car would remain same except re-tuned suspension, new cable type transmission for smoother gear shifts and booster assisted braking system.
Dynamic hood, eagle eyed clear lens headlamps, fog lamps and body coloured bumpers are some of the most attractive features that the all new Alto would sport. The looks have not got much alteration as the front looks remain almost the same, however rear end gets a new look with back door and fresh tail lamps. Dual tone interiors, 3-spoke steering wheel and front and rear passengers integrated headrests are the additions and improvements in the interiors of the car.
As the price gets dearer by approximately Rs. 30,000/-, there are a number of additional features to justify the hike like Power steering, key reminder, remote boot opener, central locking, power windows, rear parcel tray, remote fuel lid opener and electronic trip meter.
With effective and apt improvements been made in the most popular and the most selling model there seems to be no reason to deny the fact that the most selling model would raise the sales figure to another level of success. Maruti Suzuki India seems elated at the launch and has every reason to be so. Lots of appreciation appears to be on its way.
