Cayenne Hybrid a while back. The sports car maker is all set to launch yet another car – Porsche Panamera – four-door sports-coupe in 2011.
The Panamera hybrid would have a 46bhp electric motor with a 329bhp, supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. This is the same engine that does the duty in the Cayenne hybrid. And just like it, this hybrid system would also be able to use the electric motor or the petrol engine or both for the systems. After the Cayenne hybrid,
it’s the Panamera hybrid that would be Porsche’s second regular hybrid vehicle to be produced. But what everyone is waiting for is to see the 918 Spyder hybrid supercar concept to go into production. The company is thinking on those lines along with having created a 911 hybrid racer and developing three all-electric Boxsters. These cars are likely to be on trial next year.
For the Indian lovers of the brand, the quest for Porsche ended when the company launched its new five models – Cayenne, Cayenne S, Caynne Turbo, Cayenne Diesel and Cayenne S Hybrid. These models have already received bookings. In a statement Porsche India's Director, Ashish Chordia said, "We have already received bookings of at least 70 units. This model represents the perfect balance between elegant design and powerful driving dynamics. Efficiency has significantly improved making this model an outstanding trendsetter in its segment.”
The gorgeous German beauty comes with a price tag of Rs 65.82-lakh to Rs 1.27 crore in India (ex-showroom). A model wise car price structure is – Cayenne (Rs 65,82,000), Cayenne S (Rs 78,62,000), Caynne Turbo (Rs 1,27,10,000), Cayenne Diesel (Rs 59,22,000) and Cayenne S Hybrid (Rs 75,46,000). All prices are ex-showroom.
The Cayenne S Hybrid petrol consumes about 8.2 litres/100 kilometres and the Cayenne Diesel gives 240 bhp three-litre V6 bringing down fuel consumption by 20 per cent. The Cayenne S with its 4.8 litre V8 power unit is pretty impressive. Even the 500bhp Cayenne Purbo has brought down its fuel consumption by 23 per cent – the 4.8 litres V8 turbo consumes just 11.5 litre/100 km. Porsche too is planning to open five more showrooms while it currently has two. According to Chordia, "We will open five more showrooms in Chandigarh, Channai, Kochi, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad by this calendar year. The great response is because of the increasing purchasing power of the people of India. This aspect of the Indian economy throws great opportunities at the carmakers across the globe."
