The SUV segment in India has been witnessing an extensive growth recently with a number of launches in the mid/premium segment. Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company (South Korea) and the second largest car maker in the country is all set to launch Hyundai Santa Fe, an SUV in the month of October'2010. The car is expected to fall in the price bandwidth of 23 to 25 Lacs.
The concept of a Crossover developed over years when people started to realise the importance of a vehicle that can be handled in rugged conditions, has space similar to a cargo yet offers the sensibility of a sedan like car. Not many Crossovers have been able to make their mark with the Indian buyers and it seems that the designers at Hyundai have made a special attention to the fact and developed a masterpiece, if it can be called.

Hyundai Santa Fe has been blessed with extremely stylish exteriors in addition to the impressive interiors. One aspect worth a compliment is the way the genuine technological features have been placed to be used by average users. The car is expected to come in a Diesel version only. The 2.2 L, 2199 cc engine is expected to be have a CRDI diesel engine. The CRDI (Common Rail Direct Injection) fuel supply system will offer amazingly good engine performance and better fuel efficiency. Santa Fe would come in two versions – 6 Speed Manual Transmission and 6 Speed Automatic Transmission. The Euro V engine of Hyundai Santa Fe is speculated to have 4 cylinders and 16 valves with DOHC (Double Over Head Camshafts) that will offer clear emission and better torque.
Designers at Hyundai seemed to have paid special attention towards incorporating various advanced features that would attract a vast range of Car lovers across various segments. From the outside, the mid size SUV is dressed with new bumpers and body moldings, sporty wheels and a new grille which offers a very sleek look to the car, a pair of fog lights to give Santa Fe a dynamic and taut stance according to the new car builder. The front radiator grille with company’s logo embossed ensures faith amongst the riders. The interiors are also very impressive with an assortment of leather and cloth seating surfaces, an Eco Indicator on automatic equipped models and a touch screen navigation system complete with rear view camera. The ambiance of the car spells luxury and sophistication all the way.
When it comes to an SUV/MUV, the most important qualities expected are toughness and safety, which are assured by Hyundai in the designing of Hyundai Santa Fe. The car would come packed with many comfort and safety features for both, the pleasure and safety of the passengers. Some of the safety features include Airbags, ABS (Anti lock Braking System), EBD, and brake assists, etc. The comfort features available in the car are XM Nav Traffic, Bluetooth connectivity, iPod/USB auxiliary inputs for MP3 players and audio controls on the steering wheel standard in all its variants.
The speculations mounting around the looks of the car assure of an unparalleled appeal that the car would offer when on road. With such an endless list of pros, it is quite obvious that the cons if any, would not matter to the already excited car buyers of India.
