The Indian car market is crossing milestone after milestone and in the last one quarter the sales graph of most carmakers in the country has been only pointing north. October results by carmakers so far continue the trend. One of the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) had sold 1, 08, 006 units in September this year. And now in October, Maruti reported sales of 1, 18,908 units as compared to 85,415 units it sold a year ago. The company posted an overall rise of 39.21 per cent. The next in line is carmaker Hyundai, which posted one of its highest sales figures. The company sold 34,725 units, which is its highest every target achieved.
The sales of the company’s iconic brand Maruti 800 went down by 15.78 per cent to 2,631 units from 3,124 units in October 2009. But the company did better in all other segments. Like in the A2 segment – Maruti Alto, Maruti WagonR, Maruti Estilo, Maruti Swift, Maruti A-Star and Maruti Ritz – the company posted 50.67 per cent growth which translates to 77,502 units as against last year’s 51,437 units.

In the company’s A3 segment – Maruti SX4 and Maruti DZiRE – saw sales growth of 32 per cent with 11,621 units as against 8,804 units last year. The company saw an overall growth, passenger car sales, of 91,754 in October this year pitched against last year’s 63,365. Even the first seven month data when compared to last year’s shows a great increase with 7,15,886 units sold this year as compared to 5,58,332 units last year translating into 28.22 per cent rise.
Hyundai that is one of the biggest carmakers in the country and an adversary of Maruti also showed great growth figures. The company’s A2 segment that comprises of models like Hyundai Santro, Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20 posted sales figure of 46,399 units. On the other hand the A3 segment of the company that has cars like Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Verna in it managed to sell 5,730 units in October.

The company recently launched the much-awaited Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Hyundai Santa Fe in the Indian market, which falls into the A5 category of the company. The category also has Hyundai Sonata Transform in it which sold a meager 22 units as compared to the new SUV’s 74 units sales figure.
