Toyota Etios, the recently introduced sedan from the Japanese auto giant has created a rage in the market but now the question arises if it will be able to survive the competition from the biggest player in the mid-size sedan segment Maruti Swift. Maruti is currently the leader in the Indian auto market and sells more than one lakh cars from two consecutive months has cemented its position. If Toyota Etios has to find its place at the top spot, it would have to beat Maruti Swift Dzire that maintain its strong position in the Indian auto market. Toyota Etios, the sedan comes with a standard Toyota design is not voluptuous as Maruti Dzire is. The smiling grille adds to the beauty of the sedan and the chrome in place with perfectly shaped tail lamps speak volumes for the car. On the other hand, Maruti Swift Dzire, is a little plump compared to Toyota Etios. The boot space out in Maruti Swift Dzire is too much which takes away from its appeal and thus scores less in the looks department.

Compare Toyota Etios and Maruti Swift Dzire- Engine

Toyota Etios sedan is equipped with five speed manual transmission with 1.5 litre DOHC petrol powertrain which offers maximum power of 90 Ps with peak torque of 132 Nm. The sedan gives a mileage of 17.6 kmpl. Whereas, Maruti Swift Dzire the old player comes in both diesel and petrol version. The petrol version is affixed with 1.2 litre, 1197 cc, K-12 series mill is mated with five speed manual transmission offering a mileage of 17.1 kmpl. The diesel car model, on the other hand, comes with 1.3 litre, 1248 cc DDiS powertrain along with five step multi point common rail fuel injection system which ensures good fuel economy. The engine comes with five speed manual transmission which gives mileage of 23.2 kmpl.

The Japanese auto giant is also looking forward to introduce the diesel model of Toyota Etios which will further spice up the competition. The advantage which Toyota Etios bags is that it is light in weight when compared to its rival Maruti Swift Dzire.

Compare Toyota Etios and Maruti Swift Dzire- Interiors

Toyota Etios is an extremely spacious sedan in comparison to Maruti Swift. The Japanese car has been designed in a way that its offers great availability of space both in front and rear making the passengers comfortable. At the rear due to the flatboard there is enough space for head, shoulder, knee and leg. This five seator will not squeeze the passengers. Thought Toyota Etios gets extra points for being spacious than its counterpart Maruti Swift Dzire, the Indian car maker's sedan overshadows the Japanese sedan in the interior looks. Maruti Dzire takes point in the interiors quality and upholstery. But here, Toyota Etios comes with a well defined dashboard with neatly done vertical air vents, the glove box and more. The big minus point in Toyota Etios is that even the high end version of Toyota Etios doesn't come with adjustable steering wheel and automatic climate control which Maruti have offered in its sedan.

Compare Toyota Etios and Maruti Swift Dzire- Ride and Handling

Toyota Etios scores good on riding quality but handling is a little disappointing. The light weight sedan rapidly change directions. The steering wheel of the VX car model is great in feel and easy on front wheels but still a greatness is missed. However, just like Etios, Maruti Swift Dzire also comes with electrically controlled power steering wheel but the Indian sedan makes you feel more in control. The Maruti Swift Dzire is more easy on the body roll.

The Toyota Etios ride quality is better than Maruti Swift Dzire but both are excellent will be a wrong statement.

Toyota Etios and Maruti Swift Dzire both are well defined sedans for the Indian auto market. If one has just entered the auto sector the other is already enjoying volume in the domestic auto market. When looked in terms of interiors, power and looks, Toyota Etios scores high but Maruti Swift Dzire is already at a winning position among the Indian buyers. It will be interesting to know which sedan would rule the C segment in the Indian auto market in the coming year.
