Mahindra and Mahindra, one of the biggest auto manufacturer in India is all set to launch a similar version of Jeep, Mahindra Thar, within this month. i.e December. Mahindra Thar which is being brought back to India nearly after a decade, will be a revised version of Commander Jeep.
Mahindra Thar was first unveiled at the Bologna Motor Show and will come to India in Rajasthan and Kerela before offering it to other places in the country. Priced at 8 lac, this SUV comes powered with a 2500 cc, 4 cylinder, turbo-diesel direct injection common rail engine churning maximum output of 107Kw. The new SUV from Mahindra is already available in South africa where it is sold for INR 9.5-10 lac. However modifications will be made in price and otherwise suiting the requirements of Indian buyer and Indian terrain.
The suspension incorporated in the front in Mahindra Thar is an independent torsion-bar suspension system. This suspension is found in Mahindra's best selling SUV, Mahindra Scorpio. The suspension at the rear is a leaf spring suspension, taken from yet another Mahindra SUV, Mahindra Bolero. A 5 speed gearbox and a Borg-Warner 4×4 transfer case (manual shift) will be incorporated with the engine. Mahindra Thar will have as low as 2:48:1 ratio for it to become an unadulterated off-roader. The SUV has open differentials at both rear and front along with mounted front differential chassis.
Mahindra has a strong hold in the SUV segment. It offers some of the most popular SUVs in the Indian auto market such as Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Scorpio W, Mahindra Xylo and Mahindra Bolero. The company with Mahindra Thar will cement its position further in the segment beating competition on its way. The company has also made plans to mark its presence in the global auto industry by taking over debt ridden Korean manufacturer, Ssyanyong. News is that Mahindra may launch two SUVs from the Korean auto maker's stable, Kornado and Rexton in India.
The technological prowess of this Korean manufacturer will be incorporated in Mahindra SUVs, thus establishing the Mahindra brand worldwide.
