Maruti Suzuki to introduce mini- SUV in next two years

India's leading auto major, Maruti Suzuki, is currently initiating to bring in a small Sports Utility Vehicle(SUV) to enhance its presence in the domestic auto market. The company is planning to introduce a four door diesel powered SUV built on the platform of Maruti Jimny which is a two door petrol engine SUV sold in Japan.

In the next two years, the leading auto manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch seven new models. This new upcoming models list includes a small hatchback, which is designed and developed by its domestic R and D team and a MPV based on Rill concept, competing Toyota Innova. Maruti Suzuki is also to come with its premium sedan, Maruti Kizashi in January, diesel Maruti SX4 around February, New Maruti Swift in the first quarter of 2011 and Maruti Dzire models.

A company official stated that they are looking ahead to strengthen their segment scale and do the needful to rectify the gaps with the launch of new models. He added that they are looking ahead to bring in a small SUV, which would be a four door diesel model to attract the Indian buyers.

Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, the MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) shared his plans last week to introduce a mini- SUV. At present, Maruti Suzuki sells two SUV's i.e. Maruti Grand Vitara and Maruti Gypsy, both are in petrol variants and sales figures have not been impressive for these two.

Parent company of MSIL, Suzuki has collaborated with leading auto manufacturer, Volkswagen and might foresee for new diesel power plants. The domestic SUV market by the diesel powered SUV's like Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Innova, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, the SUV market has increased by 70 percent this year.

For Maruti Suzuki, both Maruti Kizashi and the small SUV will be the introduced segments in its portfolio, also the Ritz platform based RIII Multi Utility Vehicle will be a new sensation. A company official have stated that the production of diesel SX4 would begin by next year. Maruti Suzuki leads the domestic hatchback market and further upgradations of Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire will make it more established and versatile.
