The year 2011 will be staring on a slightly ‘expensive’ note for those planning to buy cars. Several carmakers have decided to hike prices of their products in the coming year and now Tata Motor’s has joined the list.
Apart from the prices of its most expensive and cheapest cars – Tata Nano and Tata Aria one of India’s largest automobile company Tata Motors will be increasing the price of other models by up to 1.5 per cent from the coming January.
According to several media reports Tata Motors has finalised the increase of prices around 1 per cent and 1.5 per cent. The models that are likely to see their prices shoot up are Tata Indica, Tata Indica Vista, Tata Indigo, Tata Indigo Manza, Tata Safari and Tata Grande Sumo. This rise in prices has come about due to a constant increase in the price of raw material rates. There is no official word on the price rise yet but according to sources the increase is almost certain.
The year 2010 also saw a rise in input costs because of which a number of carmakers had to increase the prices of their products.
So far India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki, second largest passenger car manufacturer Hyundai and General Motors have announced a hike in prices from January. Another hatchback whose price is likely to go up is the Volkswagen Polo by over 2.9 per cent from January 1, 2011.
