Launched early last year, Ford Figo, the hatchback by Ford set sales registers ringing for the American carmaker almost instantly. Ford Figo won many awards including the car of the year award and this January the car reported a four-fold increase. Ford Figo sold 10,026 units as against 2,453 units sold over the same period of last year.
The car had sold 9,478 units in March 2010 and finally it crossed the 10,000-unit monthly sales milestone in January 2011 by selling 10026 cars, according to the company statement. Ford India Managing Director Michael Boneham was quoted in the press saying, “2010 was a landmark year for us, with Ford nearly tripling its annual sales volume. We have carried the momentum of last year's terrific performance into the new year by crossing the 10,000-unit sales mark.”

The year 2010 was very good for Ford Indian mainly because of its new model Ford Figo. The company sold a total of 83,887 units, which translated into a rise of 184 per cent as against last year’s sales. Since the launch of Ford Figo the company has managed to sell 68,000 units of the car in the country.

With the hatchback the carmaker hit the bulls eye and came right back into the game. Other competitive cars like Maruti Swift, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto, Skoda Fabia etc are tough competition for the car and soon these will be joined by Toyota Etios Liva and Honda Brio in 2011.

Figo comes with a price tag of Rs 3,60,485 –5,41,595. (ex-showroom, Delhi) and even has the feel of a big car. The car comes in both the petrol and diesel version. The 1.2L petrol engine is capable of producing 71PS of maximum power and 102 Nm of peak torque while the 1.4L, Duratorq diesel engine that currently powers Ford Ikon and Ford Fiesta produces 69PS of maximum power and 160 Nm of top torque. The car is available in four variants in both petrol and diesel engine – Lxi, Exi, Zxi and Titanium.
