The surge in demand in the Indian market has lead to a number of carmakers entering the market with newer products. But Mercedes Benz has re launched its hyper-luxury saloon brand Maybach in the India car market. The car is a aimed at the growing class of super rich in India who wish to drive around on unique set of wheels that can be customised to suit their taste.
The carmaker has launched the Maybach in two top-of-the-line variants. The Maybach 57 S and Maybach 62 are on offer to the Indian buyers. The Maybach 57 S is powered by a 611bhp 6.0-litre V12 AMG engine. And the Maybach 62 is powered by a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V12, generating 537bhp. While the Maybach 57 S is priced at Rs 4.85crore (ex-showroom Delhi), the Maybach 62 will have a price tag of Rs 5.1crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

Mercedes Benz India chief executive Peter Honegg was quoted in the press saying, “There are customers out there who can afford the unparalleled luxury of this car.” The car is aimed at those customers who can who can afford private jets. The company is playing on the fact that the number of rich in India is going up and so the now there does exist a demand for such cars.

According to last year’s data India has 17 new billionaires and according to the Forbes list the total number of billionaires in India touched 69.

The company sold 200 Maybachs worldwide last year. The company has a target to sell around 20 Maybach cars in China but he did not give a number for India. The car was earlier launched in India in 2004.

Other similar luxury cars in India are – the Rolls-Royce and Bentley that the customers can choose from.
