Yes, you heard it right! Sounds bizarre and there is no proof to it yet but the pictures floated on a popular auto forum show a custom built Ferrari GTO India with a tri colour on the bonnet tell a different story. The grapevine has it that this car is here for none other than the proud captain of world champion Indian cricket team – MS Dhoni.
However, the pictures show that it is a left hand drive car, which poses a question mark on the legality of this import. Once before a Ferrari gifted to Sachin Tendulkar ran into controversy as the government waived off the import duty for the celebrity. Looks like there is another time of reckoning around the corner if this is indeed a Ferrari meant for MS Dhoni. If the rumour proves to be true than this will be an excellent marketing strategy by Ferrari that has just set foot on Indian soil. The custom of giving cars to players for good performance is an old one.
Ravi Shastri got an Audi 100 as a gift for his 'Champion of Champions' performance in the 1985 World Cup in Australia. After the Indian team’s win Audi has decided to gift Yuvraj Singh an Audi which will be presented to him by Ravi Shastri and Anil Reddi, head of sales of Audi India. Players have won a number of cars in tournaments world over and recently ICC official partner and India's second largest carmaker Hyundai announced to gift the players a Verna for their victory.
