The very well-known car manufacturer Honda is currently facing a tough competition in mid-sized sedan sector from cars like Fiat Linea, Maruti SX4, Maruti Swift Dzire, and many more. But to survive through this competition, reportedly Honda is crafting a diesel engine meant for Honda City. Till now, it is a well-known fact that Honda has a single diesel engine, which was crafted for Europe. This 2.2 litres diesel engine could not be used in Honda City as it requires a 1.4 to 1.6 litres engine. Even the fuel for Honda city has to be low on sulphur substance.
Rumor has it that, the midsized sedan section is growing at a supersonic speed as on an average, a hike of 25 per sent in sales was seen per annum. During the year of 2010-11, approximately 140,000 units were sold out. Honda was said to be the leader for constant 10 years. Share of Honda was around 35 per sent in the year of 2010.
The report says that HSCI or Honda Siel Cars India is also planning to craft a smaller car, even smaller than Honda Brio, which would be available within Rs. 5 Lakh only. It could be considered as Honda’s entrance in the mass bazaar. The report also mentions that about 65 per sent cars vended by the Honda City’s opponents are power driven by diesel. The current example being Volkswagen Vento, which was introduced petrol and diesel variants. Volkswagen managed to sell around 3,973 Vento cars in March, whereas only 2,773 units were sold of Honda City.
Another competitor of Honda city is Hyundai. Recently Hyundai launched the diesel version of Hyundai Verna priced within the range of Rs 8.09 to Rs. 10.75 Lakh. Honda has kept its hopes high wit Honda City diesel and they plan to announce it officially pretty soon.
