Could Chevrolet Spark 800cc be a challenger of Maruti Alto?

Reports are around that General Motors would come up with a new entry level small car soon. This suggests that either GM is coming up with a new car to rival Maruti Alto or the Chevrolet Spark will get 800 cc soul under the hood. It is known that 2011 Chevrolet Beat Diesel is coming next month. Thus, once the three-cylinder engine powers the Chevrolet Spark we can be sure that it would be cheaper by Rs 20,000-30,000 and it would set itself against Maruti Alto.

Since the 800 cc Chevrolet Spark or a new car are speculations these have no ground as of yet but the 800 cc Chevrolet Spark is strongly backed by a couple of reasons. First, in order to come out with entirely new model, the company needs a year and a half at least. Secondly, none of the testing mules were spied by anyone. Thus in all probability, Chevrolet is going to fit in a three-cylinder 800cc engine in Chevrolet spark and set it right in competition to Maruti Alto. With the new engine, Spark will be cheaper, powerful and will also be more fuel efficient. The new Spark will also give an edge to Chevrolet to be able to establish itself as low cost car maker. Also, GM would target small cars in India market more aggressively by introducing an affordable small car.

In addition to it, the research wing of General Motors has expertise in bringing forth a low cost high fuel economy engine such as the S-Tec engine that is currently in the Chevrolet Beat. It would be thus a child’s job for GM to fit in the 800cc engine in Chevrolet Spark. The new 800cc Spark is hoped to be launched somewhere towards the end of this year or early 2012. Though it is still unclear about the status of Chevrolet Spark 800cc but there has been much anticipation for Chevrolet Beat Diesel.
