Maruti Swift saw a massive tumble in its sales by a whopping 26% in the month of June 2011, reason being the strike at the Manesar facility of Maruti India. But it still managed to stay at the top spot in the Indian Auto market. On the other hand, Hyundai i20 grabbed the number two spot. There is still a huge demand for Maruti Swift, in spite of the new Maruti Swift launch, which is expected next month or so. This month, Maruti India managed to sell around 9,500 cars, whereas Hyundai Indian managed to sell approximately 7,100 units. Maruti India hopes that new Swift will get same kind of response as it was given to the current Maruti Swift.

Hyundai and Maruti are counted amongst the premium hatchback car dealers in the country. But for others, such as Ford India it was not a very good month for sales. Ford India managed to sell only 5,700 units in the last month, and its sales figures are being constantly falling down from last 6 months. Even sales figures of Volkswagen Polo dropped by over 23% and this German manufacturer sold hardly 2,700 units in June 2011. Sales of other cars like Skoda Fabia and Fiat Punto dropped by 6% and 11P respectively. However, Nissan Micra’s sales increased by a little 3%. The reason why Maruti Swift has topped the Indian Auto Market is its superb performance. Maruti India is selling around 11,200 cars on an average in past 6 months, which is surely very impressive.

And in the same period of time, Ford’s Figo sales tumbled down from 8,700 units to 5,700 units in the month of June 2011. Figures say that Ford Figo was on 2nd spot in the Indian Auto Market in January, but sadly it was beaten by Hyundai i20 afterwards. The other most liked car of Hyundai is Hyundai i10, which also received an overwhelming response. Now-a-days, consumers are getting inclined towards the cars, which provide superior performance along with better and reasonable money propositions. And both Hyundai i20 and Maruti Swift are pretty strong on those points. Even Ford Figo does well on these two points. But, the only reason that makes Ford Figo holdup in the race is its value propositions, which apparently Ford India is working on. However, Toyota is all set to give a tough competition to Maruti and Hyundai, which is Toyota Etios Liva.
