Indian car market is buzzing with the launch of compact cars, which is the trend adopted by almost every global car maker today. This strategy is implemented by them after studying the domestic car market for a prolonged period of time, identifying that compact models sell more in India due to their small size and economical price. The current notion is ‘Small sells Big’ and hence we see a large number of sub-four-meter cars in India that includes hatchbacks, saloons, mini-SUVs and Crossovers lined-up for launch in the near future. A compact new cars in any segment is likely to fill the bill of good value-for-money proposition.

Volkswagen Up saloon is speculated to be equipped with 1.2 litre four cylinder petrol engine or a one litre version, without ruling out an option of a 1.2 litre 3-cylinder TDI or 1.5 TDi and a super-efficient 800 cc turbocharged two-cylinder engine. The Volkswagen Up saloon could be launched around 2013, which might coincide with the similar time frame of the Honda Brio saloon launch. The saloon version of the Honda Brio might roomier compared to its hatch model, with light and preppy looks and with engines of modified 1.2 i-VTEC engine and 1.4 litre diesel engine.
