Tata Merlin to take on Mahindra XUV 500

The home grown car manufacturer Tata Motors is all set to launch its new SUV in the Indian market christened Tata Merlin on 27th September 2011. Tata fans has recently caught the new SUV on the roads during its test drive. Yet their is no confirm information about the Tata Merlin price in India, but it is speculated that Tata will tag its SUV very competitive and lucrative in a way to lure the Indian customers. It is expected that Tata Merlin price would remain around Rs 10 lakh.

As per new Tata Merlin specification, the new Tata Merlin SUV gives a certain impression of Land Rover that has integrated with Tata Motors India recently. The new SUV have certain outward aspect like flared head lamps at front and rear that are similar to Land Rover. It is expected that interiors of the SUV are as good as other Tata cars like Tata Aria’s and will definitely be better than Tata Safari’s. The all new Tata Merlin features include Electronic Switches, New Meter Dials and Tachometer, In addition to this the new SUV is also likely to possess four airbags, ABS (Anti Braking System) with ESP (Electronic stability Programme) and EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) technology. Tata Merlin is a 7 seater SUV with two sideways facing jump seats in the boot.

Talking about the technicalities, the new Tata Merlin SUV will come powered with a 2.2 liter DICOR engine which is capable of generating maximum power of 140 bhp and peak torque of 320 Nm. Tata Merlin will share the same platform of Tata Safari which has completed more that a decade in the Indian market. Tata Motors is planning to give fierce competition to its rival Mahindra XUV 500 by generating high volumes at competitive price.
