Hyundai i10 is an undisputed champion in the hatchback segment. Available in an all-petrol variant, the lack of diesel variant is immensely felt by the Indian consumers. While the craze for the diesel cars is on rise, the company has picked a middle way and introduced the Hyundai i10 in the LPG guise today. A couple of mouth watering features have been included in the LPG variant. Stressing on the greener environment it promotes, the Hyundai i10 LPG variant is tagged with a fancy name, the ‘Blue Drive’ variant.

The Hyundai i10 Blue Drive looks prim and proper with the new company fitted LPG kit comes at a right time, when is looking for a frugal alternative. A smoother transition to the LPG mode is available in two variants, the 1.1 Era and 1.1 Magna. Two fuel tanks for petrol and LPG are separately maintained with each of capacity 35 l and 34 l. The two ‘special’ features in the i10 Blue Drive are the Alternative Management System (AMS), which is quite interesting if one want to know how it works and the other is the manual shift gear indicator. From what we understand, the AMS is the brainchild of Hyundai Motors, used to limit the power consumed by the battery. The battery gets charged up when the engine is running. Now, what happens is, by default low power is produced when the car is in slow motion. There is nothing much one can do at this mode, therefore, the power supplied is normal in this stage. The trick is played when the car is moving at high pace. The power produced is cleverly restricted to the battery just to cover the basic needs. This apparently improves the longevity of the battery, which of course the engineers would know better than anybody.
The new manual shift gear indicator is one innovative feature on the car. The ‘easy to understand’ gear transmission comes in handy for the beginners to iron out any confusion with shifting the gears. With so many features and high fuel efficiency, isn’t this a better alternative over a petrol variant. What more, it comes cheaper than the diesel car. The Hyundai 110 LPG price is placed at Rs 4.16 lakhs, quite reasonable for the benefits it offers later.
