After unwrapping the new MPV Ertiga in the Auto Expo 2012, Maruti Suzuki India is planning to launch the newest MPV of its line-up on 12th April 2012. Maruti Suzuki is known for its reliable and excellent economical cars in the Indian car market. The Maruti Ertiga MPV will be rolled out in three variants each for the both petrol and diesel versions. The MPV segment in India is currently dominated by Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo but this newfangled compact MPV is sure to give neck-to-neck competition to these two big players.

Talking about the exteriors, the Ertiga MPV has sophisticated and harmonious design. The car’s narrow built will help it in maneuvering easily through the city traffic. The front end of the car looks very sporty with big body color bumper enclosing a big air duct and fog lamps, the headlights are peeled back and the front chrome slat grille is slim and is decked with Suzuki logo in the centre just like the Ritz. The rear spoiler is simple and smart. The new Toyota Innova gives good challenge to the Ertiga with revamped exteriors that look pretty appealing on the road. The wide chrome grille flanked by the angular headlights and the bumper restyled with the new fog lamps add to the front beauty of the vehicle.
The Mahindra Xylo on the other hand is not much of a looker; the car has a box type shape and looks a lot sturdy with the black nudge guards. The bonnet seems to be eating up the headlights and the grille space a bit. Maruti Ertiga would easily take on the likes of Mahindra Xylo in terms of interiors. Moving on the interiors of the Maruti Ertiga, the interiors with a beige theme are way too plush for a Maruti Suzuki car, the new MPV is spacious with three neatly arranged roads can seat 7 people comfortably. The seats have adequate legroom and headroom and also good shoulder support. The middle and the third rows can be folded in case more boot space is required. The central console sports twin AC, audio controls on the steering wheels and MID etc. Except for the base petrol model all the other models come affixed with ABS.

The top-end petrol car and diesel car models support driver and passenger airbags and climate control feature. The new Toyota Innova too is a 7-seater and has elegant interiors with dual tone cabin and premium beige plastics, the interiors also support MID, keyless entry, and rear camera with display and Optitron Combimeter with illumination control. The Mahindra Xylo on the other hand is more spacious and comfortable, the flatbed front seat allows full stretch that proves to be ultra comfortable while traveling through long distances. The dual tone interiors are rendered a wooden touch; there are plenty of other gadgets like digital drive assist system, dual airbags, ABS in addition to a stylish steering.

Both the Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo are expected to surpass Ertiga in terms of interiors. The engine specs of Maruti Ertiga are exceptional with a new 1.4-liter petrol engine from Maruti’s K-series of engines that is capable of driving a peak power of 94 BHP at 6000 RPM and a peak torque of 14 kgm at 4000 RPM. This new car has a Fiat sourced 1.3-liter turbo diesel engine that is capable of driving a peak power of 89 BHP at 4000 RPM and a peak torque at 20 kgm 1750 RPM. The new MPV uses a car-like monocoque chassis in place of the fundamental body-on-frame construction that delivers a car-like drive. The 2.0-liter VVT-I engine of new Toyota Innova drives a peak power of 132 PS at 5600 RPM and a peak torque of 181 Nm at 4000 RPM.

The 2.5-liter common rail diesel engine drives a peak power of 102 PS at 3600 RPM and a peak torque of 200 Nm at 1400-3400 RPM. On the other hand, the Mahindra Xylo has a mHawk diesel engine of Mahindra XUV500 that pumps out a peak power of 120 PS at 4000 RPM and a peak torque of 280 Nm at 2400 RPM. Here also, the Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo could give Maruti Ertiga a run for its money. However the most important factor that the Indian customers consider while choosing a new car is the price of the car. Maruti Ertiga in the price category will nullify all the shortfalls and is expected to do far better than the new Toyota Innova or new Mahindra Xylo. The expected price range of Maruti Ertiga price is Rs. 6-9 lakh whereas the Toyota Innova is currently priced within Rs. 8-13 lakh and the Mahindra Xylo is priced around Rs. 10 lakh which is way higher than this bomb shell from Maruti. With the Maruti name tag and compelling value Maruti Ertiga MPV is going to live up to the high expectation of the Indian customers and garner a huge fan base. I recently shared that Aston Martin marks its presence in Luxembourg and Chevrolet rolls out new Tavera Neo 3 at Rs 7.51 lakh.
