If you have any plans to buy a sedan car in the near future, then it’s going to be a tough choice between Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Passat. Both these sedans are top class in their own way Skoda is actually Volkswagen’s subsidiary brand but their cars are sold with their individual brand name. Skoda cars in India are a decent success and offers reasonable and premium cars, while Volkswagen is known for offering high performance luxurious cars. Talking about under the hood situations, both Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Passat features the same 2.0-litre common rail diesel car engine, but Passat features a slight more modish common rail system, which is quite similar to that of Audi A4. The Skoda Superb’s engine churns out 140 BHP of power and torque of 32.63kgm, while Volkswagen Passat engine is capable of producing 170 BHP of peak power along with maximum torque of 35.69kgm.
Talking about the looks of these sedans, Volkswagen Passat scores higher marks in this section. Just by looking at Volkswagen Passat pictures, one can make out how well-proportionate the sedan is. VW Passat has flawless strong creases on the front and the LED headlamps that provide a unique and distinctive character to the car. On the other hand, Skoda Superb has a very sporty and stretched out presence, which further helps in providing luxurious space inside. When going through the Skoda Superb pictures, the car gives more of a saloon look than a sedan. As far as the interiors of these sedans are concerned, both feature highly classy and chic interiors. VW Passat comes with ample of comfort features like efficient air conditioning, USB connectivity and rear camera for reversing, electrically operated sun glint for the rear windscreen, massage seats and so on. Alternatively, Skoda Superb features a lot of comfort features as well like electrically operated sunroof, dual zone climate control, touch screen music system, highly comfortable interiors, airbags etc. But it sadly misses out on USB connectivity and electrically operated sun glint for the rear windscreen. However, it does have manually operated sun glint for the rear windscreen.
The fuel efficiency is also one of main things that have to be looked when buying a car. Here, both VW Passat and Skoda Superb offer decent mileage. On one hand, Skoda Superb comfortably delivers 9.4 kmpl of mileage in the city and 13.2 km per litre on the highway. On the other hand, Volkswagen Passant gives an impressive mileage of 11.5 km per litre in the city and 13 kmpl on the highways. The Euro NCAP has rated both VW Passat and Skoda Superb with 5 star rating. But when it comes to Skoda Superb price, it is Rs. 3 lakh less as compared to Volkswagen Passat price. But when talking about the features and specifications and Volkswagen Passat reviews, this car comes out to be a value for money. The confusion of what car to buy is going to be further increased with the launch of the competitively priced Skoda Superb Ambition on 18th April. While talking about a competitve pricing, the recent Maruti Ertiga price is worth a mention. Along with these the other upcoming cars are of Tata Safari Storme, Volkswagen Jetta Petrol, Chevrolet Captiva and Rio premier diesel. I recently shared that skoda to launch Skoda Superb Ambition on 18th of this month.
