Compact SUV or also known as Compact crossover, baby SUV and mini-SUV is a vehicle that has been designed on a platform of a sedan or a hatchback and has a body type of SUV. The concept in real sense was made popular by legendary car manufacturer BMW with its BMW X1 crossover. The Audi Q3 became the second entry in the segment just after the X1 crossover. These back to back launches of compact SUVs have created sensations in the auto circuits and also helped to form an all new segment, compact SUVs in India. The Renault Duster is the latest entrant in the compact SUV segment and as most of us aware it came as an entry level option. After these luxury babies Indian car fanatics were eagerly waiting for an affordable car. And Renault Duster, which is a powerful, affordable and fuel efficient urban-SUV, ended this wait. Because of these qualities Renault Duster has grabbed a huge response and bagged over 10k bookings within just 2 weeks after its launch. The positive response indicates larger possibilities for the compact SUVs in the country. And to take an advantage of this, most manufacturers are planning to launch their respective compact crossovers in next two years. Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha , Chevrolet Trax, Mahindra Xylo Mini, Toyota Rush and Premier Rio are some major names that will hit Indian shores soon.
In past few years, the growth in the economy and annual income of a common Indian have accumulatively accelerated the buying capacity of Indians. Indians have become more brand conscious and living standard has also been improved. As far as automotive is concerned the lower middle class still wishes a budget car in their garage, but the middle class has started switching onto other options. They have started willing more and want a bigger and better car instead of a premium hatch or a entry level sedan. Entry level SUV cars could be a choice but sky rocketing fuel prices and lesser fuel efficiency make SUVs a less to-go-for and expensive option. That's why, the baby SUV's compact size, fuel efficiency and attractive looks lure the buyers. Compact SUV has come out as an option that has qualities of an SUV with comfort of a sedan and fuel efficiency of a hatch. Hence, no surprise that Renault Duster has got such a massive response.
Compact SUVs like Renault Duster are attracting buyers of different segments including entry level sedan, premium hatches and most importantly entry level SUVs. SUVs stand for Sports Utility Vehicle, which are used for mainly motor sports and off-road purpose. But, in India SUVs are famous because of seating capacity and attractive looks. And now when both these qualities come with improved fuel efficiency, affordable price and reduced dimensions, it is quite understandable that the compact SUVs will do well. The compacts SUV's compact size also makes it a ideal urban SUV that can be driven with ease on busy city roads.
Following the Renault Duster, it is the Ford EcoSport next in the queue, which is the most anticipated launch and has the calibre to emerge as the closest rival to the Duster. Ford has initiated the pre-launching preparation for its upcoming compact SUV. However, the baby SUV will launch in early 2013 but Ford want to assure that every thing goes perfect about the launch. It shows that how important the compact SUVs are becoming in a manufacturers stable now-a-days. I shared that Tata Safari Strome, Impatience all Around Regarding the Launch.
