A modern house in the picturesque setting of Hollywood Hills definitely did a brilliant job of providing the perfect setting for the launch of BMW's latest concept car, the BMW i3 Concept Coupe. The car, launched ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show press preview, highlights the company's new found fascination with electricity as a way of powering cars. The BMW i3 concept coupe is the first all-electric car to come out from the BMW stable. It is based on the study that the German car manufacturer presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show, 2012. The BMW i3 Concept Coupe is a two-door version of the fully electric i3 Concept four-door hatchback car that BMW has been flaunting for over an year now. The i3 concept coupe has been fashioned keeping contemporary urban mobility in mind. The coupe's exteriors boast of a carbon fibre body with a poised roof line. Furthermore, the side windows also give an impression of lightness, transparency and streamlined aerodynamics. However, BMW is building an i3 five-door electric sedan for sales across the world, which will be followed by an i8 electric sports car. As for the i3 concept coupe, it is just a design exercise.
Considering the surging demand for crossovers, it would be no surprise to see automobile manufacturer’s going all out to expand their line-ups for the relevant segment. And the latest auto major to join this race is Audi. Eager to further develop its Q series, the German luxury car manufacturer's top-brass has finally given their consent to the Audi Q8, a luxury coupe-crossover. The car, which had found itself unable to move beyond paperwork, has finally received the approval to head to the production line and may debut by 2017. It will be Audi's flagship CUV (crossover utility vehicle) that will be trump the Audi Q7 upon its launch. And this news hasn't managed to excite just Audi loyals but also its own personnel, especially the folks from their marketing department. So much so that they have already done their bit of surveys and are quite sure about its success, sure enough to predict an annual production volume of 25,000 units for the yet-to-be-made Audi Q8.
From the looks of it this festive season is turning out to be a pretty good one for everyone. Here is some news for BMW loyals. At the launch of the BMW 6-Series 640d Gran Coupe, the Indian subsidiary of this German auto giant announced they are now getting ready to bring the much desired BMW 1-Series hatchback to Indian shores by late 2013. Codenamed F20, the BMW 1-Series' current generation model has been available for purchase in the international markets since September last year. The 1-Series is BMW's smallest and the most affordable car in their entire range, a fact that renders the five-door hatchback a perfect car for the Indian automobile market. And as if that wasn't good enough news, Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW India, announced that the 1-Series and 7-Series, which will hit the Indian market soon, will be manufactured locally. This move in turn, will make the mentioned cars considerably cheaper because of the import and excise duty benefits.
The German Trio of Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz is the undisputed ruler of the luxury segment of the Indian auto-industry. As true as that fact is, so is this that whenever one of these three members of the ruling community releases a new model in the market, the fight that ensues between the three titans is worth a watch. Now, the festive occasion of Diwali is just around the corner, and with a clear intention of taking advantage of the festive mood that consumes the country during this period, BMW India have decided to introduce the latest member of their 6-Series clan to the Indian audience. And this new entrant is not just any new entrant; it is the first ever BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe of BMW to have come with four doors. Being a 4-door Coupe, this car is sure to reach out to a wider range of customers in India, not to mention that the scope of competition expands as well. This newbie from the prestigious factories of BMW, which is about to be rolled out on the 8th of this very month, will be locking horns straight away with none other than Audi A7 and Mercedes CLS. In short, be ready for yet another legendary clash between the German Titans.
Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW are all from the same country yet are globally acclaimed and have completely different methods and techniques to make their cars. All their cars are popular across the globe and have their own fan following. There have been many comparisons among them before, but there haven’t been any concrete verdicts as to which of them takes the cake. All these models have something or the other which is uncommon and attracts a special class of clientele towards them. One of such person, is me. I am a diehard fan of the Mercedes Benz but took the Audi as well as the BMW for a spin.
