The world knows how much we, Indians, love utility vehicles. And this year did see the Indian automobile market brimming with the launches and introductions of several Uvs. But now that 2012 is almost done, and the new year is only a few days away, we bring you a list of the Utility Vehicles expected to reach the domestic market next year.
1. Ford EcoSport: Given the hype Ford EcoSport has already managed to create, there is no wonder it is expected to give the very much in vogue Renault Duster a run for its money. This urban sports utility vehicle (SUV) will be offered in 3 engine options upon its launch; the extremely popular 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine and 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The 1.5-litre petrol engine will most probably be mated to an automatic transmission. Though there are no confirmed details about the Ford EcoSport's fuel economy, the mini SUV's petrol mileage is expected to be around 20kmpl. And as far as the diesel version of the EcoSport goes, reports in the industry have it that Ford intends to hold back the diesel version launch till after the petrol version so as to garner an appropriate amount of publicity before its launch.
French automobile manufacturer Renault found just what it was looking for after they brought the Renault Duster to India. The Renault Duster did not only usher in the culture of compact SUVs in India, but also helped Renault establish a foothold in the Indian automobile market. Since its launch in July 2012, the Renault Duster went on to become one of the most sought after cars as it found its name amongst the top-selling SUVs in the country. This led many other car manufacturing companies to try their luck in this newly formed segment, i.e. compact SUVs. For example, Mahindra & Mahindra, who introduced their first compact SUV, the Quanto in October, which managed to find decent success initially. The next brand to add its name to this league is the much awaited Ford with its Ford EcoSport, which is considered Renault Duster's closest. With so many amazing cars being introduced in the market everyday, it will be quite exciting to watch the Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport fight it out to see who finally achieves victory in this battle. And as these two companies go all out to get ahead in this breathtaking battle, Renault Duster has gone ahead to up its 'X-factor'.
Ford India is planning to arrange a driving program on 18th of February where driving lessons will be given to the subscribers of Cardekho without charging them anything. The program is scheduled at Gurgaon from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm. The program mainly aims at higlighting various points regarding safe, cost effective and enviornment friendly driving. This is to enlighten, both trained and learning drivers and make them efficient with their driving skills. Ford India had initially launched the program 3 years back in 2009 wherein it had given training and other driving lessons to around 3000 people which comprised of about 600 of its own employees along with certain batches of traffic police from the metros like Delhi and Chennai, MCRT round table and other buyers. The sole aim of the program was to help build roads which are safe for the drivers as well as other people around.
In the cars offered with both the fuel options, the diesel variants are outselling the petrol ones by far. This has got the car manufacturer really bad this time. The difference between the petrol and diesel price is the main culprit behind this with a gap of around Rs 30. To get their monthly budget in hand, the consumers find a diesel car a much better choice. As the result, the petrol car inventories are piling up at the car makers sales outlets. Without much choice, the car manufacturers are giving out a chunk of discounts on their petrol car models. The examples of such car manufacturers are General Motors India and Maruti India. But, Ford’s discounts offer will not only help themselves to clear out the Ford Fiesta’s stock which the car manufacturer is unable to push no matter what trick it pulls out of the bag, but will tempt the consumers too. So, here’s where Ford India stands out from the rest with lucrative discounts on their diesel line-up on the platter.
