The SUV segment in India has seen unmatched success and the contenders in the compact SUV have all been game changers for their brands. The clash of the titans and wining the top slot has never been easy and the battle demands power and persistence with inclusion of the best warheads like never before. The potential to gobble up Maruti’s share is definitely there but the gap between the two for now, is very large and Hyundai might have to satisfy itself with the second position as it may take another 5 - 7 years for the company to overtake the top runner Maruti.

The perception of a normal middle class Indian buyer has changed, instead of running after the status symbol sedans, which in turn surges their monthly budget with the higher fuel prices, have started opting for fuel efficient small petrol cars( diesel car prices are more). The small cars are easy to maneuver in the busy Indian streets. Apparently, this has led to the revival in demand of the passenger vehicles in the first quarter of the year.
