Due to the continuous inflation and reduction in the value of money, the major auto brands in the country have decided to hike the prices of their cars by January 2014. As of now, Honda, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, Tata Motors, BMW India and Audi have announced these hikes. It was expected to happen in the final Quarter of 2013, but now the auto makers have postponed it owing to the offerings, year end discounts to attract the buyers to buy their favorite car.
The month of October brought some astounding sale for the automotive car companies in India. While, companies such as Honda, Toyota and Ford bagged some hefty sales, Hyundai experienced a loss in its sales figures. But, overall, the Indian car market witnessed a rewarding market after a long time. Cars like Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze and Ford EcoSport received an overwhelming response.
The Auto Expo’s around the globe always witness launches and world debuts. As India is becoming one of the largest growing automobile markets across the world, every manufacturer is trying to get their shares in our country, from entry level cars to high end luxury and supper cars. This 2014 Indian Auto Expo, to be held on 7-11 of February in Greater Noida, and the auto expo components to be held on 6-9 February at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, will also behold lot of launches and world debuts.
Among the major launches expected from this auto expo, the first is from one of the German Big 3 - Audi that is expected to debut A3 sedan in India. It will be the cheapest entry luxury car from Audi India portfolio. Second major launch will be the next-gen Maruti Suzuki SX4 codenamed YL7. The car has been caught testing numerous times. Third and fourth will be from the Japanese giant Honda - the next gen Honda city and the Brio based MPV Honda Mobilo which debuted couple of months ago in Indonesia. Fifth will be the 800cc compact hatchback from the Maruti stable.
The other two German giant focusing on their recently launched entry level hatchback, the Mercedes A-class and BMW 1 series; and they both created a new segment in India of premium luxury hatchback. On the other hand, Audi is trying to create a new niche with an entry level compact luxury sedan - Audi A3. Audi is likely to introduce the A3 model in the upcoming auto expo. The Audi A3 shares its underpinnings with the cars from the Volkswagen clan like Jetta and Vento. The A3 will be powered by both diesel and petrol mills. The 1.4 and 1.8 TFSI engine will be offered producing 140 and 180 PS respectively.
In this festive season, the market is bursting with new launches, facelifts and limited editions. Two of the most notable launches are the facelifted Mahindra Xylo D2 Maxx MUV and updated Skoda Rapid sedan. Mahindra is basically focusing on the fleet and touring segment. The new D2 Maxx variant can seat 9 passengers with facing seats in the third row. While the masses were expecting a completely new 2014 Skoda Rapid, the company silently updated its Fabia based sedan. The Xylo for instance, is the nine seater avatar of the MUV which is accomplished by third row facing seats. According to the Mahindra officials, fleet and touring segment buyers wanted third row to have facing seats as it eases for cab operator to either carry passengers or utilize space for the luggage. Mahindra claims to offer this vehicle with slightly refreshed front look which includes tweaked grill, air damps and newly contoured front bumper. Pronounced wheel arches give this MUV a macho look. Mechanically, the car remains unaltered; it is powered by the familiar block the mDi CRDe power plant which is a tried and tested unit. This common rail power plant delivers a staggering 14.95 kmpl ARAI certified mileage figure.

Another Rs.1.63 added to the accelerating petrol prices this September is definitely not good news but has not led to the usual outburst from the Indian auto industry. The auto market here is eagerly awaiting the festive season which brings about 24% rise in terms of sales for carmakers. In the past four months, from June to September, petrol prices have steeply risen by Rs.10.80 per litre and the latest Rs.1.63 hike is the seventh in a succession of painful hikes. The market was expecting a cut as the dwindling rupee managed to regain a little over the past few days.
